It’s not quite the shock we had when Zayn Malik quit the band, but One Direction fans around the world will be devastated as Harry Styles has decided to go it alone.
The singer who’s a member of the world’s most popular boyband, One Direction, has signed a solo recording contract with Columbia Records – the label who currently manage his band.
When Zayn Malik suddenly quit the boy band back in 2015, it was only a matter of time before the others started to jump ship.
Simon Cowell, the bands mentor since their success on popular TV show Britain’s Got Talent in 2010, said:
“I don’t know if it’s a hiatus or a breakup, to be honest. In a weird way, I don’t want to know. I don’t think they’ve had enough time to experience what it’s like not being in the group to really answer that. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to trust people more, particularly artists. They’ll decide when they want to come back together.”
There has been talk that the pop band would split for the past year, ever since they lost one of the five original members, and it appears as if every One Direction fan’s nightmare is about to become very real.
Cowell went on to add:
“He’ll work out what kind of record he wants to make because he’s got great taste — which is always a help. All the writers and producers want to work with him.”
The star has already been paving his way towards a solo career this past year, having taken a role in Christopher Nolan’s World II drama Dunkirk. A source told E! News:
“His transition into acting was also meant to complement his career as a solo artist. He considers himself to be on a different path to the other boys.”
